The Congress, which is going solo on the upcoming assembly elections in Delhiwinzir, has released its second list of 26 candidates. Several leaders who recently left the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the Congress have found a place in the list.
The party, with this announcement, has now declared 47 of its 70 candidates. The grand old party has earlier this month released its first list comprising 21 candidates.
Among the notable names in the second list are former Delhi government minister Asim Ahmed Khan, who is likely to contest from Matia Mahal, and former MLA Devendra Sehrawat, who may run from Bijwasan. Both leaders switched allegiance from the AAP to the Congress in recent weeks.
The Congress party’s first list featured former MP Sandeep Dikshit as a candidate from New Delhi, where he is expected to face off against AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal in a high-stakes contest.

The party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) approved the list during a meeting held on Tuesday. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi participated via video conferencing, while Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin and Delhi unit chief Devender Yadav were present at the AICC headquarters.

After the meeting, Nizamuddin said that the CEC had discussed seats in detail, clearing many constituencies for candidates, though some seats are still pending final decisions. He emphasized that Congress is focused on contesting strongly in all 70 constituencies of Delhi.
